The best type of marketing a company can do is one that treats its demographic as equals. What this means is that they respect their customers enough to acknowledge that said customers are smart enough to make a correct decision once the plain facts presented.
No one likes being preached to as if we’re intellectually inferior. Then why are most organizations talking down to us as if we’re not aware of the choices we have? If we are part of of your targeted group, then you better believe we know about the drawbacks and benefits of one decision over the other. Commerce is always a give and take.
If you market to us preaching that your product is better than all others in EVERY single aspect, then chances are that you’re lying. This is very disrespectful.
Instead, tell us where the tradeoff occurs with your product. Tell us why you chose to boost this benefit of your product, while concentrating less on that other one which we might not need as much.
That’s respect. And that’s how you market. That’s respectful marketing.
