Chances are…
Chances are that you’re not that good. That you need more practice doing what it is that you want to be great at.
Chances are that you don’t have your gameplan quite figured out yet. That you’re only doing what others are doing because it’s the glamorous thing to do. Or that you’re taking shots in the dark hoping something will stick.
Chances are you can be way more efficient at delivering the value you want to deliver. That you haven’t kicked your productivity up to the notch required to be world-class.
Chances are that your taste isn’t that good. That your eye/ear/nose/intuition isn’t that discerning compared to a working professional’s.
But none of the above mean that you can’t get there. It doesn’t mean you can’t be as good as you want to be, or better. All it means is you have a little bit of work and time separating you from getting there. It means that right now you’re going through what successful people refer to as “tough times” with a smirk in their interviews. The times that seem to have flown by to them in hindsight but seem to take forever for those going through it right now.
Cherish this time because the satisfaction and learning you do along the way is worth a lot more than the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. The pot of gold isn’t what we truly want anyways. What we really desire is to lose ourselves in the positive feeling of flow we get when our crawl turns into a walk and then into a run, and you only get that along the way.
